on a side note….we don’t know the sex of the baby just yet but getting close. i have been thinking about the nursery theme ever since we found out i’m expecting. does anyone want to share some great websites or blogs i can look at to get some inspiration?!?!

i’m loving the bright colors. pastels aren’t my style (don’t get me wrong they are cute) but love bright colors! i’ll be painting and making all the stuff more than likely. if i get around to it. what do y’all think???

happy tuesday everyone! as you can tell i have been slacking on my posts, but jessica is here to save the day! thank you!! her awesome blog over at happy together is super cute and she has created so many great projects. if you haven’t checked it out then go do it! I am honored to be here and do a little guest post for Kristen as she has a lot on her plate right now :) I totally know how that goes!

The above picture is a shirt from Anthropologie. It is similar to the one that a reader suggested I do a tutorial for. It’s so cute, why not? I wasn’t able to find any fun knits in time to do this, but as you can see, a lot of fabrics will work. It’s all about the look you are going for.

To make this, you will need a knit tank top, some fabric, scissors, pins, measuring tape, and all the sewing stuff. Make sure you use the correct sewing machine needles for the type of fabric you are working with. The following tutorial is just kind of a broad how to, as each persons tank top will be different.

I started off by measuring the height of the shirt to determine how tall my layers should be. I made mine smaller than in the pic because I was working hard to use up scraps.

Then measure across from side seam to side seam. You want the length of each tier to be a few inches longer than this. You want to be able to ruffle it, but not too much or it might get too bulky. Your final tier pieces will just be long rectangles.

Once you have cut out your pieces, baste and gather them. Pin your first bottom layer on first. Make sure it is at an angle.

Then sew it on with a zigzag stitch. This will allow for some give so the fabric will still stretch. Not the prettiest, but the other layers will cover it up and we will make the last one on top look good. Repeat this for the other tiers, except the top one.

Once you get to the top layer, place it on upside down. The right side of the fabric will be facing the tank. Pin the top of the tier where it where it will be sewn. Zigzag stitch across it, then fold fabric down. No funny zigzag line showing!

I like the addition of the extra pleats and ruffles, so I made to pleated pieces to go to the side. I honestly just pleated some scraps and then cut them to look nice when I pinned it on.

I sewed these in place with a long straight stitch.

For the neck ruffle, I wanted it to look a bit cleaner, so I folded the top down towards the wrong side of the fabric and sewed in place. Then I basted and gather a little farther down, pinned it on, and sewed it on with a long straight stitch.

You can really do some fun things with ruffles and pleats. Use your imagination and have some fun. I’m sorry I don’t have any pics of it on a person, but I’m currently without a photographer to help me out.

Hello to all of Kristen’s lovely readers here at Peace, Love, & Crafts! We are Rebecca, Jill, and Maggie of Homemade Mamas. If you are not familiar with us, our little bog consists of all kinds of tutorials, including recycled crafts, kids crafts, tasty recipes, and so much more! But our favorite projects are ones where we can make homemade versions of products most people would normally buy at the store, such as cleaning and even beauty products!

Homemade products are so great because you control what you you put in them, eliminating many harmful chemicals that many commercial products contain. Plus they can be so much cheaper! That is definitely the case with our project for today! In honor of Kristen’s expected little one, we have decided to share how to make your own Homemade Baby Wipes!

What you need:

* a round plastic container with a tight-fitting lid (the one we chose is a little big, but it’s what we had on hand)
* thick, strong roll of white paper towels (we prefer Viva brand, as it is very thick and strong but also soft and cloth-like)
* sharp, serrated knife to cut paper towel roll in half
* 2 cups water that has been boiled and cooled to room temperature
* 2 Tbsp. baby shampoo or baby wash
* 1 Tbsp. baby oil

First, cut your paper towel roll in half and remove the inner cardboard tube.

Then mix your liquid ingredients in container and place one of the paper towel halves inside, cut side down (save the other half for the next time you need to make wipes). Put the lid of the container one tightly and let it sit until all the liquid is absorbed. Next, turn the container upside down and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then turn it right side up, open your container, and “start” your roll by pulling a towel from the center of the roll.

Ta-da! You have just made baby wipes that will not only clean your baby’s skin, but make it feel super-soft as well! Plus, these wipes are way cheaper than commercial brands and don’t contain mystery ingredients. If you would prefer to make washable, reusable wipes, simply use this solution along with cloth wipes! As you can see from this happy little guy, these wipes also make a great drum…

…and seat! Enjoy!

new! home sweet home

hello lovely readers. i know my posts have dwindled down a bit lately but hopefully in a few more weeks (when i reach my 2nd trimester) i will regain all my energy back and feel amazing. apparently that happens…so i’ve heard. i sure hope so! i miss being crafty! i have all these ideas in my head but no energy to do them. :)

anyways….another HUGE and fun announcement! since we’re expanding our little family, we thought we should expand our little apartment. soooo through a long (and somewhat painful) wait…we are proud 1st time home owners!!!!!!!! it was definitely a God thing for sure, but couldn’t have done it without both sides of our family helping and supporting us through it all, and of course all our friends’ encouragement and prayers. it is pretty amazing.

we got to visit the house for the first time as owners last night. we just laid on the living room floor trying to soak it all in. it was surreal. we are so thankful and blessed. and knowing our baby will have a room is exciting!

now the fun part begins….packing! (well the unpacking in the new place is more fun) but packing party starts this weekend!! definitely no where near ready. ha. i love my friends who are going to help. :)

PLUS..instead of taking up half of our bedroom, i have my own separate room just for my craft stuff! i know husband is really happy about that. :) (pretty sure mine will not look like that one…isn’t is gorgeous though!) also….have to give a huuuuge shout out to husband. he went way out of his way to make sure this happened and i know he sacrificed a lot with his work schedule. he is pretty amazing and i can’t thank him enough for his hard work and dedication to our family.**pics of the house coming soon!

renegade craft fair day!

after not having any trouble falling asleep on the hard floor with rockband playing super loud and a bunch of teenagers high on caffeine and sugar….i slept at the youth lock in friday night. it was magical. but i needed my sleep so i could make it to the renegade craft fair!

bribed ellen to wake up with a big cup of coffee from starbucks and made our way to meet up with charissa and kate in a big room full of handmade goodies! so much inspiration!

AND met one of my fav bloggers that i follow!! elsie with red velvet art and a beautiful mess. never thought i’d ever meet her since she lives way up north but i did! bought some cute hair bows of hers too!

and of course had to go back and take a pic with her (pretty sure she won’t remember me but it was a super lovely to meet her!)
*finished my day with falling asleep during a movie and yogurt planet! lol. my day was kind of thrown off a little, but super excited about the craft fair! had a lovely sunday as well. love sundays. love God. He is amazing. hope everyone has a great monday!!

happy mother’s day

i should actually say happy mom’s day!! (my mom doesn’t like to be called “mother”) ;) but i absolutely love her oh so much!!!! sad i couldn’t hang out with her today, but i will make up for it soon! she is one of the main reasons why i got into crafting and art and making things. she’s a creative genius too!! i learned lots of artsy things from her….and of course millions of other things in life. i hope all you mothers out there had a fabulous day and know how much you are loved!!!

springfest

springfest=a whole bunch of local businesses and companies with their fancy tents talking to lots of people and selling fun stuff! live music, good food, and great weather!

so proud of husband and his business GLIDE. go check him out! :) i was there helping out….well, i was there smiling and saying hi! that was about it. haha.

what a stud. hehe. i adore him.

i had to step away from the tent and do some school stuff, and of course this ahh-dorable baby goat comes by and i miss him! thankfully husband stopped to take a pic for me :)

i also stepped away to pick up these lovelies! i am so excited for these to grow! i got this succulent last year from the same lovely couple. started out that small, and now it is massive!

in their new homes! smiles.

finished my finals for school too! super happy about that! now i can breathe, and perhaps make more pretty things during my break! hmm…what shall i do?? hope everyone has a great day!!

what a beautiful saturday!!! why am i not outside right now? oh yes, because i made a new necklace and wanted to share!!! one of my fav necklaces broke awhile back and never came around to fix it…until i saw this super super cute tutorial by One Pearl Button featured on Adventures in Dressmaking! aren’t blog swaps amazing. maybe i can do that someday!

i used some thick corduroy fabric i had and it turned out lovely! this tutorial is super easy to follow. everyone should check both Alli and Suzannah out! great blogs.

i can even wear it down the middle. gotta love versatility.

i heart my new necklace!

i heart saturdays too! awhile back i never had saturdays off. i don’t take them for granted. PLUS husband cooked us brunch today! (i do all the cooking…so this was a treat!) breakfast tacos with homemade salsa and fresh avocado. yummm. great start to the day! hope everyone enjoys their weekend!!!

lovely easter weekend.

it is starting to get warmer!! and i love it….for now. :) we had a wonderful Easter. some lovely ladies helped me hide over 600 eggs before church service. grateful for them.

so many eggs/candy were donated to the church it was awesome!….plastic, confetti, and even some hard boiled. ha. kid’s church went well….around these times i get a little nervous teaching the kids the resurrection of Jesus because it is soooo important that i don’t want to leave anything out! lol but i think they got it. :)

i’m pretty sure they would have ran me over if i didn’t let them start the hunt…they almost ran over lisa…ha. i have amazing pics of the kids (but i feel weird putting them up here without their parents’ permission) sooo just imagine how cute they are! :)

2 huge events this weekend plus everything else…wore me out. but in a good way. ha. now on to school stuff…(over half way through with this term!!) and more cooking (bought new vegetarian books!!)…and more crafts. i need to craft something. what shall i do next???
